The ESAB OK 316L Welding Electrode (Part No. 6398252030) is a premium AWS A5.4 / ASME SFA5.4 E316L-16 rutile-coated stainless steel electrode designed for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) of AISI 316, 316L, and similar molybdenum-alloyed austenitic stainless steels. Manufactured in Sweden, this electrode delivers excellent corrosion resistance, superior weld quality, and reliable mechanical properties for demanding industrial and fabrication applications.
With a 2.5 mm diameter and 300 mm length, the electrode is ideal for welding thin to medium-thickness stainless steel sections. The low-carbon (L) weld deposit minimizes carbide precipitation during welding, significantly reducing the risk of intergranular corrosion while providing outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and aggressive chemical environments.
The rutile coating provides easy arc ignition and re-ignition, a smooth and stable arc, low spatter, and easy slag removal, resulting in clean, attractive weld beads with minimal post-weld finishing. Suitable for all-position welding, the electrode is widely used in chemical and petrochemical plants, food and beverage processing equipment, pharmaceutical manufacturing, marine and offshore fabrication, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and stainless steel piping systems.
